Miniature goats are affectionate, inquisitive, playful
and intelligent pets.
The natural goat is a browsing animal preferring to eat
plants, weeds and bushes above shoulder height.
Most of us keep them as grazing animals, so we need to
keep in mind their natural preferences and supply extra
minerals and a variety of treats such as: fruits, vegetables,
herbs and non- poisonous branches from trees or bushes
on occasion.
Goats like to be protected from the rain and as they are
a herd animal they like company.
A
fully fledged Australian miniature goat is 3 years old
or over and has been height verified, classified and graded.
Any goat under 3 years of age is referred to as miniature
bred.
The Australian "foundation" grading system includes
miniature goats from "D" grade through "C",
"B", "A", to purebred and then onto
herdbook purebred..refer to MGBAA
website for further information.
At the beginning of 2005 we were introduced to Miniature
Goats and were instantly smitten. We immediately started
up our stud buying in 16 does with 1 buck kid at foot,
unbeknown to us and while still suckling off mum, he impregnated
the other 15 does and 5 months later we added 23 babies
to our herd, and our FUN with miniature goats had truly
begun. We love our little goats and currently run between
30 and 40 at our stud.
We are current members of the
MINIATURE GOAT BREEDERS ASSOCIATION
